The People’s Free Pop-Up Now Online

The Geneva Women’s Assembly (GWA) recently moved its popular “People’s Free Pop-Up” clothing store online in order to help Genevans access the clothes they need while observing physical distancing practices to help stop the spread of COVID-19.  Offering online ordering and a contact-free delivery process, the People’s Free Pop-Up is a safe option for Genevans who are looking for a more waste-free life, need some free retail therapy, or are dressing a family on a budget.

“With the change of seasons and the reality that kids don’t stop growing just because there is a pandemic, we thought that Genevans could use the option of shopping the pop-up’s clothes more than usual,” GWA member Jess Farrell said.  “We hope that getting something from the People’s Free Pop-Up will brighten someone’s day at a time when there isn’t much to get excited about.”

By visiting genevawomensassembly.org/peoples-free-pop-up, shoppers can browse photos of the available clothes by size and “purchase” as many items as they would like.  The GWA is doing its best to keep the website stocked with clothes in a variety of sizes for all age ranges.  Once an order has been received, the GWA coordinates a time to drop it off as soon as possible.  All of the items are free and there is no charge for delivery.

The Geneva Women’s Assembly is committed to mutual aid and sees the People’s Free Pop-Up as a way for Genevans to share more and buy less.  And the customers seem to agree that this is their experience.  A pop-up shopper recently commented on the website about their struggles as they prepared to start a new job after having a baby and gaining some weight, writing: “I’ve been so worried about what I will have to do to find work clothes and this has been my answer!”  The customer went on to offer to donate their pre-pregnancy clothes to the pop-up.  As the People’s Free Pop-Up website announces, it is “the store that is built by all of us, for all of us.”

If you are interested in volunteering, the GWA is looking for help in coordinating the pop-up’s efforts.  There is a form available at genevawomensassembly.org/volunteering which allows potential volunteers to indicate how they would like to help.  The options are to sort and launder clothes, to photograph and describe new items for the website, to store the pop-up’s inventory, and to deliver orders.  The pop-up is currently NOT accepting donations.

The GWA invites all Genevans to head over to the People’s Free Pop-Up today to order the clothes that they need—or even just want!  As the People’s Free Pop-Up’s tagline reminds us, “sharing is the new shopping!”
